My Story: Why I Founded Gotham Edit
Hi, I'm Meryl Jacobs. I founded Gotham Edit in 2022 to serve what I saw as an under-served market for one-on-one personalized video editing services for clients, large and small. We edit branded video content for social media and broadcast platforms, promoting hundreds of features and TV series for Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, including "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," Oscar-winning films such as "1917," "Parasite," "Promising Young Woman," "I, Tonya," prestige films such as "Downton Abbey," "No Time to Die," "Get Out," "Nope," and franchise tentpoles including "Jurassic Park," Fast & Furious," "Back to the Future," "Fifty Shades," "Despicable Me," "Minions," and many more. In addition to my work for Universal Pictures, I edit corporate sizzle reels for TUMI to promote their luxury brand over multiple platforms, and music videos for Lest We Forget Musicians, a major non-profit, and I served as editor on an early pitch reel for "Period. End of Sentence" before it was developed into a documentary film that won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short in 2019. I was honored in 2019 with a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Los Angeles for editing the successful PSA, "Just Hang Up" to promote awareness of financial scams affecting our seniors. Prior to learning video editing, I served as finishing producer at the top trailer houses in Los Angeles: Trailer Park, Ant Farm and Modern Video Film. I helped launch Fox Studios' My Network TV as finishing producer, and before this, I honed my post-production skills in the trenches at ABC On Air Promotion in the feature films division. Before ABC, I served as assistant producer at Rhythm & Hues Studios in Theatrical and Commercial Visual Effects, where one of my first projects was the feature film "The Nutty Professor” for which I received a screen credit. I started my career in NYC in advertising, but soon caught the theatre bug, and became a theatrical stage manager, working on several Broadway shows, including Les Misérables, Pygmalion, Sunday in the Park with George, and Wind in the Willows. I received a B.A. Degree in Literature from Columbia University, where I graduated on the Dean's List. I am passionate about video editing as a marketing and educational tool to engage audiences and drive results. I am an intuitive and experienced editor and see video editing as visual poetry to engage and entice the viewer. Collaborating with a highly skilled video editor builds opportunities for brands to maximize audience engagement and stand out in our competitive, video-centric world. I edit in Avid, Premiere, and DaVince Resolve. My company, Gotham Edit, is a member of the Motion Picture Association's Trusted Partner Network and is certified by the City of New York's M/WBE program as a Women-Owned Business Enterprise. I am honored to be a member of the NY Women in Film and Television.
